Poolside Recipes: Vodka Infused Watermelon

vodka_infused_watermelon

During the hot months of the summer season it’s nice to be able to kick back and relax by the pool with a nice cold drink or a refreshing bite to eat. The less work the better, and that’s what this recipe is all about. The vodka infused watermelon takes a little planning, but requires little work, and tastes better than one might think. The best part about it is that it goes a long way. Perfect for when you have friends and family relaxing by your pool.

Vodka Infused Watermelon

Ingredients:

1 Large Watermelon
1 Bottle of Vodka
Any Extra Toppings or Garnishes (We used blueberries and a strawberry/watermelon slice for garnish)

Tools

Large Cutting Knife
Cutting Board
Large Container or Baking Pan

Step 1:

Begin by prepping your watermelon. Place the bottle of vodka up to the top of your watermelon to measure. Use a kitchen knife to cut a “T” shape to start, and then cut out the shape of the bottle.

Step 2:

Grab a small spoon or knife and remove a portion of the innards from the watermelon, making room for the vodka.

Step 3:

In order to avoid spilling the vodka, tip the watermelon to the side and quickly place the neck of the bottle inside the hole of the watermelon. Place in the refrigerator overnight or for 12 hours.

Note: Place something under the watermelon, such as a large pan or bowl to avoid leaking.

Step 4:

Remove from the refrigerator. From here you have the choice of cutting the watermelon into pieces and serving, or removing the top and muddling the watermelon into a drink as shown.

Note: Serve with your favorite toppings or garnish for added flavor.
