Spa Heater Element Replacement Guide

There are many fears and apprehensions when doing any repair project.  That is especially true when you’re faced with needing to replace parts for your hot tub or spa. The task can appear somewhat daunting and intimidating for any novice hot tub or spa owner. While some projects are more difficult than others, some are simple and can easily be accomplished by anyone. In this guide, we are going to walk you through the simple steps of replacing a heater element in a flow-thru heater.
The heater element is housed in a heater assembly housing that exchanges heat produced by the element to the water. In the following guide, we will show you just how easy it is to remove the heater element and replace it within the heater assembly.
The following instructions are meant to be used as a general guide. For more specific instructions, please refer to your manufacturer’s manual on replacing your flow-thru heater element.
CAUTION: It is very important to make sure prior to starting this project that all electrical power to the spa or hot tub is disconnected before removing the heater assembly.

The heater assembly is removed and ready to work with.The first thing we must do is remove the nuts that are attached to the wire terminals.

After the nuts are removed, the heater element will drop into the heater assembly.We can now use some tools to help coax the heater element out of the heater assembly.

We found that for this task a screwdriver worked best.Once we have the heater element close enough, you can reach in and remove it.

Now that the heater element has been removed, we can now replace it.The new heater element just slides into the heater assembly.

We line up the terminals on the top of the heater element with the holes on the assembly.Be careful not to damage the terminals or the epoxy that surrounds the terminals.

We then reattach the nuts to the wire terminals and we are finished.With these basic tools we have successfully replaced an old heater element.
